New Photo Box & Matching Book

Wow, how the heck did April sneak up on us like that. Am I the only one that feels like it was just new years? and now we’re already a quarter of the way through 2010! Yowza. Over the last few months I’ve been ordering some new product samples for the studio and I’m excited to show this one off. It’s a funky little Photo Box that comes with a matching book! The design is customized to each client and comes in any color you can dream up. We have a ton of different designs available for these boxes which can viewed at the studio. This particular design was done for little Olive and her mom, Cheryl, who I photographed back in the summer of 2009. The box measures 8.5″ x 8.5″ and is about 4 inches deep so not only can you keep the book protected in the box, but you can store prints or cards in there too! I really love photo boxes and I’m excited to show this bad boy off in the studio. Of course, what good is a product brag without some photos! Here she is!

New Website = Promotion Time!

Today I finally launch a new website for John Heil Photography! The old site needed some freshening and streamlining so I’ve spent the last few days making some minor changes and updates. Ok, it started out minor and ended up as a complete re-vamp. Some pages are still under construction, so bare with me while I finish those up – I couldn’t wait to launch it! As a promotion to celebrate the new site, I’m offering an awesome new booking bonus to all new wedding clients! Every couple who books a wedding with John Heil Photography before March 15th, will get a bonus custom designed guestbook included in their package! These are a HUGE seller in my business and always a big hit at weddings. I adore these books! Yay, finally a new blog post!

It’s soooooooo busy right now. Like crazy-mad-can’t-keep-my-head-on-straight busy. But today shall mark the kick off to some new posts!

Today I received my awesome note books from PapercraftsbyKathleen and just had to take some shots. The books are really gorgeous. One will be a gift for one lucky client and the other is for me. Love them!!

I have a small fetish for paper I guess. I love paper. really nice paper. journals. notebooks. paper pads. all of it. I’m a compulsive list writer so perhaps that has something to do with it. Anyways, I have various notebooks that I’ve used for all kinds of stuff over the years…notes, sketches, photo ideas, tattoo ideas, etc. and this will be a great new addition to them all! Thanks Kathleen!

Suzanne & James Custom Guestbook

This week I delivered a custom made guestbook to my good friends Suzanne and James! They are getting married this June at the Vancouver Ironworks Studio! A non-traditional venue for a non-traditional couple!
We did an amazing rooftop e-session in the spring and there were so many great shots that I couldn’t WAIT to design this guestbook with the images. I spent a lot of time making sure every detail was perfect and that the book really suited them both, while also trying to create something that would match their red/black/gray spanish damask theme. It was so amazing to see their faces light up when I gave them the book….I just love how much photos can have an impact on people and instantly reveal such emotion.

This is one of only a hand-full of guestbooks I have designed from scratch and I have to say, I really LOVE this design. So much so that I’ve ordered a copy as a sample so that clients can see these babies up close and in the flesh! They are manufactured with hinged pages so they lay perfectly flat, and the covers are all metallic finished. They are such a great way to show off your engagement photos in a fresh and funky style at your wedding. At my past weddings, the guests just LOVED them and every time I looked over at the guestbook area, people were swooning around the book, flipping through pages over and over.

I’ll save the pictures of the actual book until after the wedding, but I’ll share a few of the spreads with you!
Aside from the cover the first 2 images, these are 2 page spreads, and as you can see, the pages are designed so guests can sign anywhere in the book.
A little non-traditional, but definitely leaves guests remembering how unique the book was!

Photography Gift Certificates

Alright alright! I’m super excited to finally announce…..they’re here!

After a few people asked, including a really close friend of mine, Gift Certificates are now available for purchase!

They can be purchased in time frames, so, 1 Hour, 2 Hours, 3 Hours etc. Just in time for the season, these are a great way to give someone close to you a chance to have an amazing portrait session done…as a gift! As most of you who follow my work know, my sessions are not your traditional, lackluster type sessions full of stiff poses and uncomfortable smiles…..they are much more relaxing and are aimed at captureing the true spirit of the people in them. If you know someone who would appreciate some great photos, but may not be willing to jump in and book something themselves, then these are great way to get them going!
