Another reason to love RAW…..

Complete and total control over color temperature is by far the largest benefit.

I just shot this outside on a quick run around the block to get some cool winter-y snow shots. The street lights cast a horrible orange color on everything which basically makes everything look pretty barfy. It can look appealing with the right composition/subject, but for the most part, street lights are terrible to shoot under. Unless, you shoot in raw! Then you have complete control over every tiny wee speckle of data in that image and you can alter the color temperature post shoot.

Might I add, I shot this with no flash, outdoors, at night. Yes, I love my Canon 24mm 1.4!!!

I’ve been looking at a lot of photography lately. A LOT. I utilize loads of different resources out there to constantly keep myself inspired and challenged and searching for fresh ways to bring my work alive. I’ve seen some many great photos from so many genres, but I’m always drawn back to same type of photos lately. Photos that make me feel something the second I see them. Photos that make me see into the subject in a way that I feel only I can see….me, at that very moment I look at the picture……when you look at a photo and it feels like you are a part of photo with them, you know it’s good. Every once in awhile I come across someones work that really blows me away like that….Work that reminds me of what it is about photography that I really love.

I happened to wander on the PIF site tonight just before I was planning to hit the sack. I immediately stummbled upon a thread about Simplicity Photography and followed the link to check it out. All I can say about this photographer from Salt Lake City is WOW. Angie seems to have quite a knack for color, which certainly resonates with me as you all know how much I LOVE color in my photos. So, go check out her site….look at her amazing images, feel the connection she makes with clients. Amazing photos.

24mm 1.4 – Purely Delicous

About a month ago the newest addition to my optical arsenal arrived in the mail, my Canon 24mm 1.4 L Series Lens. 1 word can only describe my feelings on this lens: wow.
I am kicking myself for not buying it sooner. This baby can find light that even your eyes can’t see. I’m not even exagerating. Incredibley fast and razor sharp. I LOVE TIHS LENS!!

Being that I shoot on a crop sensor, it’s not quite as wide as on a full frame, but it’s about as wide as I need it to be, as it works out to be just over the standard. I have the 50mm 1.4 as well, which I equally adore, but find that it’s a bit long indoors sometimes…again, due to the crop. But having both now gives me some awesome flexibility when I need something wider. I think this could become my new workhorse prime!

I took this photo at close to midnight on the day I got it…..
No tripod.
No flash.
Nothing but the parking lot lights and the lights inside the windows, but look how much this lens picks up!

I’ve been on the hunt for a new camera strap lately to personlize my cameras a bit, and I think I just found the puuuurfect ones! I came across this great leather company called Red Monkey Designs that makes all kinds of awesome leather products. One of which, camera straps! I am in love with the Honkey Tonk, the Rocket and the Machine Gun. But especially love the first 2 – beautiful vintage style leather

I just wish I could feel them and test them out before ordering them. I think I have to risk it and just try one out.
