Wow, such an icon.

I wouldn’t normally write a blog post about the death of a celebrity, but I think Liz deserves a special post. I grew up with a lot of Liz in my house as my grandmother was a die hard fan. So, this post is dedicated to my granz out in Calgary.

I loved Liz! She was so amazing in her time. Nobody matched her beauty and charisma back in the day. Although her last decade or two were somewhat rough, and it showed, she lead one hell of an amazing life. She persevered through so many enormous challenges in life, walked down so many different paths, it’s amazing really. I grew up watching her movies a lot as my grandma played them regularly. I loved her dramatic acting style. I must have seen Cat on A Hot Tin Roof 10 times. Gran really idolized her and tried to actually look like her when she was young, rather successfully I might say.  She truly was an icon, before there was ever the “Angelinas”, there was Liz. I think this weekend might have to be a Liz movie weekend.

So the real point of this post, which my non-descript title is eluding to, is the 21 day cleanse I’m about to embark on.

I thought I’d share a little blog post to explain my very likely intense mood swings and cranky Twitter updates over the next 3 weeks. It’s not a typical starve-yourself type cleanse where you live off of liquids for a ridiculous amount of time or eat only one thing everyday. It’s simply just a %100 plant based diet – therefore, no meat, dairy, sugar, gluten, caffeine or alcohol.  Yep, like most you right now, at first I thought what the heck is left? Suprisingly, quite a bit! Basically unlimited vegetables, beans/legumes, fruit, grains, nuts, oils, spices, natural sweetener, rice & almond milks. I like to think I eat relatively healthy already, so it won’t be a severe change but there are some things I will definitely have to adjust to. I think the hardest thing for me will be the cheese, eggs and coffee. Those are like my 3 staples! And chicken. I eat a lot of chicken. I love meat. Love it. And I rely on it for a lot of my protein intake. I’m a little concerned about getting enough protein after workouts and stuff, but, I’m hoping to supplement that with more shakes, soy ones if need be, but I’m hoping I can find something non-soy. The actual cleanse is only 3 weeks-not THAT long. I think I can hack it. The point, for me at least, is not to drastically change my way of eating for life, but, just bring a little more awareness to myself of what is on my plate and where it came from. And I guess, “cleanse” my body at the same time? For now, it’s just a personal challenge. I feel like my body needs a re-boost right now and I think this is a great way to “clean things out” and get myself back to a fresh slate. I’m lucky to have Kristopher joining me in this pursuit so together, we’ll have a little more power and ambition to complete it, I hope!! We’re planning to run in the Vancouver Sun Run this year and will be starting training soon, so this will co-incide nicely with that. I’m also really looking forward to getting back to Bikram Yoga soon. I’ve been on a hiatus since November due to a hamstring injury and I’m REALLY missing it. The doc put me on strict orders NOT to go to yoga for at least 2 months, so I had to stay away. The hammy is finally feeling better though, I think, so I’m going to head back to the studio in the next week or two. So, all this combined means the beginning of an exciting new chapter. I’m looking forward to it!

Here I sit, now enjoying my last cup of caffeinated Jo for the next 3 weeks. Savouring every taste. What lays ahead, who knows…but I hope I can make it through to the end!
